Make Halloween and Harvest Parties Safe for All Kids!

Halloween, Fall Festivals & Harvest Parties can bring stress & worry to parents whose kiddos have food allergies. My twin nephews had peanut allergies and it kept their mom & dad on their toes to make sure that everything that came home from school and every treat they received didn’t have any nuts or cross contamination with nuts.

We can help those families by purchasing a few non-food goodies to give out. The Teal Pumpkin Project was started as a common way to let families know that you have Halloween goodies that won’t make them sick…and it’s EASY to do!!

Simply purchase a few non-food items like glow sticks, pencils, erasers, etc. and keep them in a separate bowl. Purchase a teal pumpkin from any local store (Target, Walmart, or a craft store) or just paint an orange one teal. On Halloween, put the teal pumpkin on your porch so kiddos with allergies know you have safe goodies for them. It’s that easy!

My nephews have outgrown their nut allergies, but my sister still participates in the Teal Pumpkin Project and makes little goodie bags. She spreads the word that they participate by talking to other parents and posting in her Facebook community pages.
